On Friday, I recorded a podcast with Pon Van Compernolle (profile below) on an Indonesian company called Adi Sarana Armada (ASSA).

ASSA trades at a forward P/E of 3x per Pon! It has 3 lines of business: 1) Corporate car leasing, 2) Logistics, and 3) Used car and auction business. Pon expects ASSA to thrive in the next few years, and he presented the idea at the conference I organised in Asia. See info on FatAlpha Value (ASIA) here. For our discussion on ASSA, see the video below, or for links to Spotify and Apple Podcasts, go here.
Pon Van Compenolle is a fund manager out of Thailand who invests in equities in South East Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, etc). Pon has been advising and managing client funds for over 20 years. He holds an M.Sc. in Financial Analysis from the University of San Francisco, a B.Econ. degree from the University of Sydney, and is a member of the Thai Institute of Directors. He is also the author of “360: Thailand.”
The book (in English) is a compilation of 100+ interviews from 2008-2020 owners and executives of Thai companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The businesses range from infrastructure and real estate to cosmetics and tourism companies. For most of the companies, these are the only English interviews available. The book provides a snapshot of what the owners and executives thought of their businesses and industries at a particular point in time. Pon created the book as he wanted a form of corporate history to exist and to share it with those who are interested in the businesses and the capital markets in Thailand. You can check it out on Amazon here.
Pon has a blog called Thai Capitalist with colorful insights. A must-read if you are involved in Thailand (click here to check it out). He is also on X/Twitter @gvoncomp (click here). You can reach out to him via both venues.
